About

Writer, knitter, baker, fan.

I’m Bethany! Also known throughout various spaces as Bee, theherocomplex, or “oh no she posted a new fic, time to cry”. I’ve been writing original fiction since I could hold a pencil, and fanfiction for almost as long. For over ten years, I’ve edited a wide range of projects, including fiction, poetry, memoirs, academic papers, advertising copy, and administrative documentation. Whatever your project, I have the skills and experience to help you bring your written work to the next level.

I graduated with a dual degree in English and Comparative Literature, as well as a certification in Technical Writing. Over the past eight years, I’ve edited fiction work for over thirty writers; for the past ten years, I’ve worked professionally as an academic administrator at a large New England university, where my duties include copyediting, archival work, and public relations.

In 2021, I also had the great pleasure of being the head editor for The Ties That Bind Us, a 2ha fanwork anthology zine, featuring over twenty writers and artists. The zine sold out in under two weeks, with over 400 copies sold.

My twin passions for writing and editing are closely intertwined; there’s nothing I love more than the rush of discovering that perfect phrase, word, or formatting — whether it’s on my own work, or someone else’s. I believe editing is as vital to the process of storytelling as the writing itself, and that each story should be approached with an appreciation for its unique demands, stylistic choices, and thematic elements. As an editor, I treat each job as a conversation with the author, to make sure their individual voice shines through.
